UNCSW

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by ECOSOC resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

AGENDA:- Deliberating the increasing participation of women in politics with special emphasis on women of colour/minorities.

“Women are young at politics, but they are old at suffering; soon they will realise that through politics, they can prevent several kinds of suffering.”

- Nancy Astor, the first female Member of Parliament.

Despite the extremist nature of politics in the MENA and Latin-American areas, the participation of women in politics has miraculously surged. However, gender based discrimination remains an ever-increasing and ubiquitous predicament. Women belonging to minorities are maltreated in the developed as well as developing areas. With causes ranging from medicaid, family planning, college enrollment/completion & more, it is high time we discuss this agenda. At UNCSW, we aim to win small fights worldwide so that one day, we no longer have to struggle for our basic rights everyday.
